CWC Survey
Campus & Workplace Climate (CWC) Survey
The University of Colorado and UCCS are committed to fostering a culture of care. In 2021, CU launched and administered the Campus Workplace & Climate Survey (CWC). The purpose of the survey is to gather information from UCCS students, staff, and faculty about their academic, workplace, and residential environments and allows UCCS to have a more representative look at the extent to which individuals feel respected, supported, and valued. The CWC survey was conducted a second time again during the 2025-2026 academic year.
The 2025 survey provided an opportunity for faculty, staff, and students to share anonymized information about the extent to which they feel respected, supported, and valued at UCCS. There were surveys for each of four populations: undergraduate students, graduate students, staff, and faculty.
The results are displayed below through Tableau. Results are best viewed with a desktop browser setting of 1000 x 800 pixels.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
The IDEA office assumes a community-based approach to interpretation of the results in which students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to share their expertise and may choose to contribute in ways to validate their experiences. We hope this approach will enhance more equitable and shared decision-making.
Yes, survey participants' privacy will be maintained. We anonymized the survey after the survey closed and the incentives had been distributed. The Enabled setting will remove metadata like an email address and disconnect the response from the contact who provided it. In this way, we can know which contacts responded through the distribution history (so we can send reminders), but we cannot know which response belongs to which contact. The UCCS Director of IDEA managed email distribution lists and delivered unique survey URLs to individuals appropriately. The surveys were administered through Qualtrics. The data was encrypted in transit and at rest. For more information about Qualtrics' security, read their security statement.
After completing the survey, participants had the option to opt in to the incentive process, which entered them in for a chance to receive parking passes, dining passes, and gift cards to Clyde's Gastropub, Big Cat Coffee, the Campus Store, the ENT Center, and GOCA. These were available to students, staff, and faculty.
The survey took 10-15 minutes to complete. Respondents could leave the survey and return later to pick up where they left off by clicking the same link in their email invitation.
The surveys are compatible with assistive technology such as screen readers. The survey was accessible on smartphones, but it was recommended to complete the survey on a computer.
Enrolled students and active employees were invited to take the survey if they were 18 years or older as of the survey's start date. Individuals younger than 18 are protected minors and were not invited to take the survey.
There were no open-ended questions in the survey. This is intentional in order to uphold the confidentiality and anonymity of the survey respondents. It also prevents comments from triggering investigations. (The surveys do not constitute reports about illegal behavior or misconduct. Various resources to report misconduct or to seek support are provided throughout the surveys and in the footer of the surveys.)
There are four survey instruments customized for each of the different populations within our campus community (undergraduate students, graduate students, staff, and faculty).
The Office of Strategic Initiatives will work with campus stakeholders who will develop an action plan to use the survey results to inform decisions and improve campus and workplace cultures. Reports and results will be available here on this website; any frequencies or crosstabulations that show small groups of 10 or fewer respondents will be suppressed to protect the identity of respondents who belong to that group. The IDEA office will not entertain ad-hoc requests to mine the data.
In 2021, our campus community came together to share insights and experiences through the Campus Workplace Climate (CWC) Survey. The results sparked meaningful action across campus, driving initiatives that aligned with our commitment to a culture of care, wellbeing, and strategic growth.
